Freedom from glasses for 45 - 65 year olds

For people aged 45 to 65, the loss of near vision due to presbyopia means an increasing dependence on glasses. But there are modern solutions to see clearly again without visual aids. At this age, lens replacement and a special laser profile are particularly promising procedures.

Femto-LASIK and lens exchange preferred

There are several options but these two are definitely the favorites.

PRK

PRK involves lasering the surface of the cornea. This procedure is mainly used when the cornea is thin.

Femto-LASIK

With a special laser profile, presbyopia and any other visual impairment can be corrected simultaneously.

SMILE Pro

A SMILE-Pro cannot currently correct presbyopia - not yet.

ICL

The ICL generally makes no sense, with the exception of people who are very short-sighted. The ICL may be a good option even in this age group.

Lens replacement

When exchanging lenses, a lens can be inserted that allows you to see clearly at multiple distances.

Blended Vision: See clearly at multiple distances

The procedure that is most suitable for you must be determined individually.

Blended Vision is a technique for correcting presbyopia. One eye is optimized for distance and intermediate distance vision and the other for intermediate distance and near vision. This method can be achieved with both the Zeiss laser and monofocal-plus lenses.

Blended Vision: See clearly at multiple distances

The procedure that is most suitable for you must be determined individually.

Trifocal lenses offer an excellent solution for patients who want to see clearly at all distances - near, intermediate and far. These state-of-the-art lenses have multiple focal points and can correct presbyopia, nearsightedness and astigmatism simultaneously.

It must be decided on an individual basis which procedure is best suited to which patient. There is no “one-size-fits-all solution” here; instead, using the latest diagnostics and after discussing the patient’s wishes, a decision must be made as to which procedure will achieve the highest probability of high patient satisfaction. This requires special expertise.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have summarized the answers to the most frequently asked questions here for you. If you haven't found what you are looking for, you can ask Jana. Just scroll down...

There are several options for glasses-free vision for 45-65 year olds, including: - **Laser vision correction:** Procedures such as LASIK and SMILE to correct refractive errors. - **Lens exchange:** Refractive lens exchange (RLE) with multifocal, trifocal or monofocal lenses.

What is the difference between monovision and blended vision?

**Monovision:**
- **Principle:** One eye is corrected for distance vision and the other for near vision.
- **Advantage:** Allows freedom from glasses for most daily activities.
- **Disadvantage:** Some patients need time to adjust to the different visual acuity of the eyes. It can result in reduced depth perception.

**Blended Vision:**
- **Principle:** A modified form of monovision where both eyes work in an intermediate range, each covering some of the near and distance vision.
- **Advantage:** Better balance between near and distance vision compared to traditional monovision.
- **Disadvantage:** Similar to monovision, there can be an adjustment period.

Patients aged 45-65 may be suitable for laser vision correction if they:
- Do not have any serious eye diseases.
- Have stable visual acuity.
- Want to improve their near and distance vision.
A comprehensive preliminary examination will clarify whether you are a suitable candidate.

A refractive lens exchange (RLE) is a procedure in which the eye's natural lens is replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This can help correct refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and presbyopia and make it possible to be free of glasses.

Both laser vision correction and lens replacement are usually not painful. Before the procedure, anesthetic eye drops are administered to numb the eye. During the procedure, you may feel a slight feeling of pressure, but no pain. After the treatment, you may experience slight discomfort, but this will quickly subside.

Recovery time varies depending on the procedure:
- **Laser vision correction:** Most patients can return to normal activities the next day. However, it may take several weeks for vision to fully stabilize.
- **Lens exchange:** Again, recovery is relatively quick, with a return to normal activities often the next day. Fully stabilizing vision may take several weeks.

As with any surgical procedure, laser vision correction and lens replacement involve risks and possible side effects, including infections, inflammation and temporary visual disturbances. However, serious complications are rare. During the consultation, we will inform you in detail about all risks and side effects.
