For people aged 45 to 65, the loss of near vision due to presbyopia means an increasing dependence on glasses. But there are modern solutions to see clearly again without visual aids. At this age, lens replacement and a special laser profile are particularly promising procedures.
Femto-LASIK and lens exchange preferred
There are several options but these two are definitely the favorites.
PRK
PRK involves lasering the surface of the cornea. This procedure is mainly used when the cornea is thin.
Femto-LASIK
With a special laser profile, presbyopia and any other visual impairment can be corrected simultaneously.
ICL
The ICL generally makes no sense, with the exception of people who are very short-sighted. The ICL may be a good option even in this age group.
Lens replacement
When exchanging lenses, a lens can be inserted that allows you to see clearly at multiple distances.

Blended Vision is a technique for correcting presbyopia. One eye is optimized for distance and intermediate distance vision and the other for intermediate distance and near vision. This method can be achieved with both the Zeiss laser and monofocal-plus lenses.

What is refractive lens exchange (RLE)?
A refractive lens exchange (RLE) is a procedure in which the eye's
natural lens is replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This can help
correct refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and presbyopia and
make it possible to be free of glasses.
Is the procedure painful?
Both laser vision correction and lens replacement are usually not
painful. Before the procedure, anesthetic eye drops are administered to numb the
eye. During the procedure, you may feel a slight feeling of pressure, but no pain.
After the treatment, you may experience slight discomfort, but this will quickly
subside.
How long does recovery take?
Recovery time varies depending on the procedure:
- **Laser vision correction:** Most patients can return to normal activities the next day. However, it may take several weeks for vision to fully stabilize.
- **Lens exchange:** Again, recovery is relatively quick, with a return to normal activities often the next day. Fully stabilizing vision may take several weeks.

What are the risks associated with these procedures?
As with any surgical procedure, laser vision correction and lens
replacement involve risks and possible side effects, including infections,
inflammation and temporary visual disturbances. However, serious complications are
