The preliminary investigation

Your first step to better vision

Before we begin, we carry out a thorough preliminary examination to ensure that the laser treatment is suitable for you.

  • We will first discuss your medical history and anamnesis to assess any previous illnesses and risks.
  • Various vision tests help us to accurately determine your current visual acuity and visual impairments.
  • We measure the shape and thickness of your cornea using state-of-the-art equipment.
  • At the end of the preliminary examination, we will discuss the basic procedures that apply to you and, if desired, plan the main examination.

Ideally, you should stop wearing contact lenses two weeks before your visit. We can then determine your values more precisely and, if desired, carry out the main examination straight away. This saves you valuable time!

The main inspection

State-of-the-art diagnostics for greater safety and precision.

After the preliminary examination, the main examination takes place, which serves as the final preparation for the laser treatment. In this step, your eye is measured again very precisely to ensure that all parameters are precise and up to date.

We use some of the most modern equipment in ophthalmology - this enables maximum safety and precision:

Famous 500

This device provides high-resolution images of your retina, which helps us see the smallest details and make a precise diagnosis. It allows us to examine even the periphery of your retina without having to dilate you.

Maestro2

With the Maestro 2 we can create comprehensive 3D images of your retina. We can display the individual layers of the retina. This allows us to precisely analyze and plan the treatment.

Pentacam AXL-Wave

This device combines the measurement of the cornea and the anterior part of the eye with the measurement of the eye length. This gives us a comprehensive picture of your eye anatomy with micrometer precision!

Atlas500

The Atlas 500 provides detailed maps of the corneal surface, which are essential for precise planning of laser treatment.

Keratograph 5

The tear film analysis provides information about the quality and quantity of your tear film. This is especially important for patients with dry eyes to ensure that the eyes are optimally prepared for laser treatment

Frequently Asked Questions

We have summarized the answers to the most frequently asked questions here for you. If you haven't found what you are looking for, you can ask Jana. Just scroll down...

Laser vision correction, such as LASIK or SMILE, uses precise lasers to change the shape of the cornea and correct vision defects such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. The laser removes tiny amounts of corneal tissue to correctly focus light on the retina.

How does the lens exchange work?

A lens exchange, also called refractive lens exchange (RLE), is a procedure in which the eye's natural lens is replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This is usually done on an outpatient basis and under local anesthesia. The cloudy or incorrectly focusing natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear, custom-made lens.

Patients over 18 years of age with stable visual acuity and no serious eye diseases are generally suitable for laser vision correction. A comprehensive preliminary examination in our practice will clarify whether you are a suitable candidate.

A lens exchange is particularly suitable for people who suffer from severe visual impairment or presbyopia and no longer want to wear glasses or contact lenses. Patients for whom laser treatment is not possible or not sufficient can also benefit from a lens exchange.

An implantable Collamer lens (ICL) is a phakic lens that is implanted in addition to the eye's natural lens without removing it. The ICL is placed between the iris and the natural lens and corrects refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. It offers excellent vision correction and is a reversible option because the eye's natural lens remains intact.

Laser vision correction, lens replacement and ICL implantation are generally not painful. Before the procedure, numbing eye drops are administered to numb the eye. During the procedure, you may feel a slight feeling of pressure, but no pain. After the treatment, you may experience slight discomfort, but this will quickly subside.

- **Laser vision correction:** Most patients can return to normal activities the next day, but it may take several weeks for vision to fully stabilize.
- **Lens replacement:** Again, recovery is relatively quick, with a return to normal activities often the next day. Full vision stabilization may take several weeks.
- **ICL implantation:** Recovery is also quick, and most patients notice a significant improvement in their vision within a few days.

As with any surgical procedure, laser vision correction, lens replacement and ICL implantation involve risks and possible side effects, including infection, inflammation and temporary visual disturbances. However, serious complications are rare. During the consultation, we will inform you in detail about all risks and side effects.

Before the procedure, you will receive detailed instructions from our team. This may include avoiding makeup and perfume on the day of surgery and bringing a companion. A thorough pre-operative examination will ensure you are optimally prepared for the procedure.
