Flap Education
The eye is anesthetized with special drops and a flap is created on the surface of the cornea using femtosecond laser pulses.
It is the most commonly performed laser procedure in the world: Femto-LASIK. Its extremely high precision and wide range of applications set it apart from other laser procedures. Femto-LASIK makes (almost) everyone glasses-free. You too? Let's take a look:
Femto-LASIK is extremely precise
The eye is anesthetized with special drops and a flap is created on the surface of the cornea using femtosecond laser pulses.
The prepared flap is lifted, the inner corneal tissue is exposed and can be treated.
An excimer laser shapes the corneal tissue point by point. In this way, the visual defect is corrected in just a few seconds.
The flap is then folded back into its original position. It protects the eye like a bandage.

The world market leader’s most modern lasers are used together
First, an incision is made with the Visumax 800. Then your cornea is precisely modeled with the Mel 90. The two Zeiss lasers are perfectly coordinated and therefore deliver excellent results at dr. vision.

In traditional LASIK, the corneal flap is cut mechanically with a microkeratome, which can cause more complications. In Femto-LASIK, a femtosecond laser performs this cut, which is safer and more precise. It should be standard to always use a femto laser. Make sure that a femto laser is used for your LASIK - as has been the case at dr.vision since day 1.

It is the most versatile and precise procedure within laser surgery. Is it also the ideal procedure for you?

Suitable candidates for LASIK are usually:
- Over 18 years old
- With stable visual acuity for at least one year
- Without serious eye diseases such as keratoconus or glaucoma
- In good general health
A comprehensive preliminary examination will determine whether you are suitable for LASIK.
The LASIK procedure is quick and painless:
- **Preparation:** You will be given numbing eye drops to numb the eye.
- **Creation of the flap:** A thin flap is created in the cornea using a femtosecond laser or a microkeratome.
- **Laser treatment:** The excimer laser reshapes the cornea to correct the vision defect.
- **Folding back the flap:** The flap is folded back and acts as a natural bandage.
The entire procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes for both eyes.
Recovery after LASIK is usually quick:
- **First 24 hours:** Most patients notice a significant improvement in their vision the next day.
- **First week:** Mild discomfort and sensitivity to light may occur, but will quickly subside.
- **First months:** It may take several weeks to months for vision to fully stabilize. Regular follow-up visits are important to monitor the healing process.
The main difference between microkeratome and femtosecond laser is the method used to create the corneal flap:
- **Microkeratome:** A mechanical instrument with a blade is used to cut the flap. It is a proven and effective method.
- **Femtosecond laser:** A precise laser is used to create the flap, allowing for even more precise and consistent incisions. This method can reduce the risk of complications and speed up healing.
- **LASIK:** Most commonly used procedure in which a flap is created in the cornea which is then folded back for laser treatment.
- **LASEK:** The flap is created from the top epithelial layer of the cornea, which is pushed aside to treat the underlying cornea. It is suitable for patients with thin corneas.
- **Epi-LASIK:** Similar to LASEK, but the flap is created using a special epikeratome. It offers an alternative for patients not suitable for LASIK and often has a shorter healing time than LASEK.
As with any surgical procedure, LASIK has risks and possible side effects, including:
- - **Dry eyes:** This is the most common side effect and may be temporary or permanent.
- **Glare and halos:** Some patients report glare and halos around lights, especially at night.
- **Infections and inflammations:** These are rare but can be serious.
- **Under- or over-correction:** In some cases, follow-up treatment may be necessary to further improve vision.
Before the procedure, you will receive detailed instructions from our team:
- **Avoid contact lenses:** Do not wear contact lenses for at least one to two weeks before the examination and procedure.
- **No makeup or perfume:** Avoid makeup, lotions or perfume on the day of the procedure.
- **Companion:** Bring someone with you who can drive you home after the procedure.
