Nowadays, there are excellent options for people over 65 to improve their eyesight and become glasses-free. Presbyopia can be effectively corrected by replacing the lenses.

The best option: lens replacement

For people over 65, lens replacement is usually the most sensible option

PRK

PRK is inferior to Femto-LASIK in the treatment of presbyopia. However, in exceptional cases it can be a possible option.

Femto-LASIK

In exceptional cases, Femto-LASIK with a special ablation may still make sense, but as a rule, lens exchange is preferable

SMILE Pro

A SMILE-Pro cannot currently correct presbyopia - not yet.

ICL

The ICL generally makes no sense, with the exception of people who are very short-sighted. The ICL may be a good option even in this age group.

It must be decided on an individual basis which lens system is best suited to which patient. There is no “one-size-fits-all solution” here; instead, using the latest diagnostics and after discussing the patient’s wishes, a decision must be made as to which lens will achieve the highest probability of patient satisfaction. This requires special expertise.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have summarized the answers to the most frequently asked questions here for you. If you haven't found what you are looking for, you can ask Jana. Just scroll down...

A cataract, also called a cataract, is a clouding of the lens of the eye that causes blurred vision and impaired vision. It is a common sign of aging, but can also be caused by injury, certain diseases or medications.

2. How do I know if I have a cataract?

The most common symptoms of cataracts include blurred vision, difficulty driving at night, increased sensitivity to glare, faded colors, and the feeling of looking through a veil or fog. If you notice one or more of these symptoms, you should see an eye doctor.

The only effective treatment for a cataract is surgical removal of the clouded lens and replacement with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This procedure is very safe and is usually performed on an outpatient basis.

Cataract surgery is usually not painful. Before the procedure, numbing eye drops are administered to numb the eye. You will feel a slight pressure during the operation, but no pain. After the procedure, you may experience some mild discomfort, but this will quickly subside.

The recovery time after cataract surgery is relatively short. Most patients can return to their normal activities the next day, but it is recommended to avoid strenuous activities for the first few days. It may take several weeks for vision to fully stabilize. Regular follow-up examinations are important to monitor the healing process.

As with any surgical procedure, cataract surgery also carries risks and possible side effects. These include infections, inflammation, increased intraocular pressure and visual disturbances. However, serious complications are rare. During the consultation, we will inform you in detail about all risks and side effects.

A cataract itself cannot return after removal because the clouded natural lens is replaced by an artificial lens. However, in rare cases, a condition called posterior cataract can develop, in which the posterior capsule that holds the new lens becomes cloudy. This can be corrected with a simple, painless laser procedure.
