Cutting-Edge Lasers. International Expert.
Enhanced Safety with Femto-LASIK
The eye is numbed with special drops, and a femtosecond laser creates a
thin corneal flap with high precision.
The prepared flap is gently lifted, exposing the underlying corneal
tissue for treatment.
An excimer laser precisely reshapes the cornea at pre-determined points
to correct the refractive error.
The flap is carefully repositioned into its original position, allowing
it to heal naturally without the need for stitches.

LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a widely used vision correction procedure that
treats nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. A precise laser
reshapes the cornea, allowing light to focus correctly on the retina, improving vision.
You may be a good candidate for LASIK if you are over 18 years old, have had a stable prescription
for at least one year, do not have serious eye conditions like keratoconus or glaucoma, and are in
good general health. A comprehensive pre-examination will determine if LASIK is the right option
for you.
The LASIK procedure is quick and painless. First, you receive numbing eye drops to ensure comfort.
Then, a thin corneal flap is created using either a femtosecond laser or a microkeratome. The
excimer laser then reshapes the cornea to correct vision. Finally, the flap is carefully
repositioned, acting as a natural bandage. The total procedure time is usually less than 30
minutes for both eyes.
No, LASIK is not painful. You may feel mild pressure during the procedure, but the numbing eye
drops ensure that you do not experience pain. After the procedure, some patients report slight
discomfort or a sandy sensation, which quickly subsides.
Recovery from LASIK is generally fast. Most patients notice significant vision improvement within
the first 24 hours. During the first week, mild discomfort and light sensitivity may occur but
usually resolve quickly. It may take a few weeks to months for vision to fully stabilize. Regular
follow-up appointments are essential to monitor the healing process.
The main difference lies in how the corneal flap is created. A microkeratome is a mechanical
instrument with a blade used to create the flap. This traditional method is effective and widely
used. A femtosecond laser, on the other hand, creates the flap with greater accuracy and
consistency, reducing complication risks and speeding up healing.
7. Epi-LASIK vs. LASEK vs. LASIK: What are the differences?
LASIK is the most common procedure, where a corneal flap is created and lifted for laser
correction. LASEK involves creating a flap from the cornea’s top epithelial layer and moving it
aside for laser correction, making it ideal for patients with thinner corneas. Epi-LASIK is
similar to LASEK, but the flap is created using an epikeratome instead of alcohol, often resulting
in a shorter recovery time than LASEK.
Like any surgical procedure, LASIK carries some risks. The most common side effect is dry eyes,
which may be temporary or permanent. Some patients experience glare or halos around lights,
particularly at night. Although rare, infections and inflammation can occur and require medical
attention. In some cases, an enhancement procedure may be needed to correct undercorrection or
overcorrection for optimal results.
Before the procedure, you will receive detailed instructions. You should stop wearing soft contact
lenses at least one to two weeks before the consultation and surgery. On the day of the procedure,
avoid wearing makeup, lotions, or perfumes. It is also important to arrange transportation, as you
will not be able to drive immediately after surgery.
